Security Overview

Last updated: February 16, 2026

1. Our Approach

NoteBee is designed with a simple security principle: your data stays on your device. There are no remote servers to breach, no cloud databases to compromise, and no accounts to hack. Your templates exist only on your Mac.

2. Local-Only Architecture

All template data (content, formatting, categories, and settings) is stored in a local SQLite database on your Mac. This data is never transmitted over the network to any server operated by us or by third parties.

NoteBee does not require an internet connection to function. The application operates entirely offline.

3. macOS App Sandbox

NoteBee runs inside the macOS App Sandbox, a security technology enforced by Apple. The sandbox provides the following protections:

If you delete NoteBee from your Mac, all data within its sandbox container is deleted along with it.

4. No Account Required

NoteBee does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information. There are no passwords to manage, no credentials stored, and no authentication tokens transmitted.

5. Network Access

NoteBee requests outgoing network access as a system entitlement. This is included to support potential future features such as checking for application updates. In the current version, no user data is transmitted over the network.

6. No Third-Party Code

NoteBee does not include third-party analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking libraries. The application is built using Apple's native frameworks (SwiftUI, SwiftData) and does not embed external code that could access your data.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete individual templates and categories within the application at any time. To remove all NoteBee data from your Mac, uninstall the application. macOS will remove the sandbox container and all associated data.

8. Software Updates

NoteBee is distributed through the Mac App Store. All updates go through Apple's review process before they reach your device. Updates are signed by Apple and verified by macOS before installation.

9. Future Features

If we introduce features that involve network connectivity (such as cloud sync or team collaboration) in future versions, we will update this Security Overview and our Privacy Policy accordingly. Any such features will be clearly communicated before they take effect, and we will provide documentation about how data is handled.

10. Responsible Disclosure

If you discover a security vulnerability in NoteBee, please report it to security@notebee.app. We take all reports seriously and will respond within 48 hours. Please do not publicly disclose the vulnerability until we have had a chance to investigate and address it.
